A lot of us post about how we made progress on our goals during the month. I’m not going to do that. I’m going to talk about my successes instead. So here is my list for February success (with a little bit of January mixed in because I was too dense to think to do this last month!).
Success 1: Find a New Studio Assistant
At the beginning of the year, I posted a list of things I’d like to do in my quilting life in 2020. One of those goals has been fully met! Meet my new studio assistant, William!
My sweet Mitchell passed away last November, and it’s been really hard being in the studio for a few months without his help and supervision.
Last weekend, Sir and I felt ready to go to the shelter and pick out a new friend. We played with a two-month-old kitten, but I just wasn’t feeling a connection. So we walked around until we found this guy. I’ll do a whole post on him soon because I have tons of cute pictures already. For now, he’s learning the sounds and rules of the studio. I love him so much already! And, yes, he’s on Instagram if you want to follow him.
Success 2: Sew Every Day
I really need quilting to keep me sane and the creative juices flowing. I keep a daily journal noting everything I work on so I can really keep track of this one. Of the first 60 days of the year, I only missed 14 days. I keep track of why I don’t sew as well, and it all boils down to injury/illness, dates with Sir, and getting to know William.
I also note when I’ve finished a project. I have four finishes so far this year, including my FQS Quilty Love cross stitch project. This traveled really well on our vacation last month (see Success 4 for more). It’s all framed and ready to hang on my office wall.
Success 3: Work More in Prints
I really got into solids over the past couple years, and one of my goals was to work more in prints. I also have a mini quilt wall in my studio that I’m trying to fill up. So I grabbed a copy of Mini Masterpieces from Alyce Blythe. I loved her Pendant mini made with half-square rectangles, so I grabbed some batiks that have been in my stash for forever and got to work. Here’s a peek of the fabric.
Success 4: Enjoy Life
Sir and I took a vacation to Daytona Beach in Florida last month, and we had so much fun! We toured the Daytona race track, saw a rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, visited a few quilt stores, and went to Gatorland in Orlando! A lot of people are surprised when I say my favorite animal is the alligator. Here’s a picture of me and my new friend, Milkshake, as evidence.
And because it’s probably the best picture I’ve ever taken in my life, here’s a smiling tortoise.
What were your successes this month? I want to hear all about them!
