I’ve been chugging along in the studio finishing up last year’s WIPs and creating new ones for 2021. So I’d like you to meet the Oasis Quilt.
The Oasis Quilt is the second project of my Modern Makes subscription. It sat on my cutting table for several weeks because curved piecing really intimidates me! But it was so fun, quick, and easy to put together. For the curves at the top and bottom, I just stacked the fabric and just went at it and cut a random curve with my rotary cutter. There’s not a lot of room for error in the fabric kit, so that was really nerve racking. I’m so happy with how it turned out!
For the quilting, I used my walking foot and quilted random wavy lines – not worrying about overlap – until I was happy with the density. This project went together from cutting to getting the binding attached to the front in just a couple hours. That’s one of the things I really like about this subscription. I’m learning about modern quilting, but I’m not investing a ton of time repeating a style or technique on a larger project that would be way too intimidating to finish. At least, it would be for me!
Be sure to check out my Streamline Quilt from last month too.
So here’s what I want to know from you:
- What’s your favorite quilting subscription box?
- What do you learn the most when you delve into modern quilting?
Learning more about modern quilting is one of my aspirations this year, so feel free to share all your knowledge with me in the comments!
