Quilty Goals Mid-Year Check In

My favorite week of the year is the last week in December, when everyone gets new calendars and journals and sets their goals for the coming year. My second favorite week is right here in July, when I check in with those goals and see how I'm doing. I set some quity goals six months ago, and it's time to check in and look at my progress.

Sleep Under a Quilt of My Own

I'm really proud of my progress here. I had to move every piece of furniture in my living room, but this quilt top is basted and ready to go under the needle. It's 119 x 91, so I'm guessing I'll need every second of the rest of 2024 to get it quilted. I'm thinking about using motifs that are good for borders and sashing in the white background pieces and let the teal and blue parts pop up. What do you think?

Tackle Curved Piecing

I'm working through the Learning Curves BOM from Mija Handmade, and I'm having fun - yes, fun! - tackling curved piecing. I have the June and July blocks on my cutting table to work on, but I'm happy with how my confidence is building and how the blocks are starting to come together. I'm glad I picked a technique-based goal and am already thinking about what next year's technique might be.

Make Something Uniquely Mine

Poor Puddles! This project was supposed to be a love letter to Animal Crossing, and I just haven't had the motivation to draft or make any more blocks. I still have the rest of the year, but this is the goal that got the least amount of attention so far. Maybe I'll do a major gaming session this weekend to get my ACNH mojo back.

Support a Favorite Designer, Make New Quilty Friends

This started as one goal but has played out as two. I've spoken of my love for Rebecca Bryan before, and I'm absolutely enjoying her Aurora modern triangles quilt along. There's really nothing she can't create that I don't adore. At the beginning of the year, I was really unsure about my color choices. They were not the vibes, as the kids say. As I work through each month's blocks, though, I'm falling hard for these choices and can't wait to see the finished top in a few months.

I had planned on being more active in Rebecca's community, but I've been feeling pretty Zoomed out lately. Instead of trying to dive deeper into her community, I've been making sure my participation in my other groups has been more meaningful. Quilting can be a solitary hobby, so it's important to make sure I'm staying connected to my quilty friends. I'm happy with the progress on this goal, even if I'm approaching it differently than I thought I would.

Not a bad first half of the year. Now I need to go check in on my other goals that aren't as fun and likely aren't as complete. I hope your goals check in is awesome!
